Your walk begins atmospherically on Pastoor Pinckersstraat. Can you feel it already? That sense of calm that washes over you the moment you step out of the car. It’s the perfect place to clear your head and turn your face towards the fresh river breeze.
Here, the wind sets the rhythm and clouds are reflected in the water. Take a deep breath of that crisp river air.
Then it’s time to head into the De Weerd nature reserve. And a word of warning: this is where you’re free to go off the beaten track. The paved path gives way to a rough, boots-only trail. You’ll trudge straight through the greenery and across muddy ground, right along the banks where water birds dart away into the reeds. It smells of wet grass and freedom. Getting dirty is allowed. In fact, it’s part of experiencing nature in its purest form.
Following the water’s edge, you slowly circle back. With rosy cheeks and mud on your shoes, the Rozenkerk comes back into view. Tired? Maybe. But your head is clear and your energy levels are recharged. A truly fresh start.
Tip! Wear waterproof shoes.
